6 Reasons Why You Should Be Shed Hunting

You enjoy being in the Great Outdoors

Shed Hunting It always seems like hunting season goes by too quickly. And before you know it, winter has set in and you haven’t seen the sun in months. That’s why you need to shed hunt. Not only will it give you a head start for next year’s hunt, but it’s a great way to introduce family and friends to the joys of nature and wildlife.

You won’t be huffing and puffing during hunting season

If you tell yourself “man, I need to lose 20 pounds” after every hunting season, give shed hunting a try. Slimming down won’t necessarily help you bag a bigger buck, but it will make the trek to your tree stand or ground blind easier. And you won’t feel like you’re having a heart attack after you climb on up.

Learning how deer move on your property

Hunting is a mixture of three things: skill, lots of luck, and being at the right place at the right time. That’s why shed hunting is so important. By keeping track of large trails, scrapes and rubs, you’ll know where to place your tree stand or ground blind come hunting season. Also be on the lookout for bedding areas and droppings.

Knowing which bucks survived the winter

Give yourself a head start on next year’s management program by looking for sheds. When you know a large buck is roaming your woods, you can target them specifically AND it makes it easier to pass up on younger, smaller bucks.

Shed antlers let you know what to plant

Pay special attention to the plants and trees in the area where you find sheds. Chances are you’ll find those same bucks roaming the same areas during hunting season. It’s also great for finding other places to hunt since you know which food sources deer in your area prefer.

Last, but certainly not least…you love big whitetails.

There’s nothing more beautiful and mesmerizing than a nice set of whitetail antlers. And when you see that first point peaking up from under the snow, you’ll be hooked. And you’ll definitely be bragging to your hunting buddies later that night.
